Taking Job Loss Seriously

Monday, March 31st, 2008

By Marilyn Tellez Anyone reading this article and has suffered a job loss recently IS taking the job loss seriously. The stages often are: 1. A sense of relief, sometimes euphoria if the job has been a bad one, and sadness if the loss has been unexpected. 2. Next comes anger, resentment and more sadness. 3. If the job was a bad one, sadness often leads to real depression and more anger. If the job was a good one, expect the same reactions. 4. Euphoria has gone, along with relief. If finances are grim, coping with money becomes desperate. If there is a money cushion for awhile, procrastination becomes a habit. 5. Stress because of being out of work, coupled with the other negative emotions, can make the household an emotional battleground. 6. If the emotional stability of the job seeker is frail, suicide might be contemplated. 7. How to get out of these traps? The two best methods are to have emotional support, even if you buy it, (counselor), and ACTION. Almost any physical action will get the job seeker started. And, getting started AGAIN at anything might make the difference. It’s worth the try! Marilyn J. Why You Should Do A Background Check On A Prospective Nanny

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

By Jennie Crawford Are you looking for a nanny? Do you need someone to look after your children while you are working? Is that person going to live in your home with you? Are they going to be spending extended periods of time with your children without supervision? Are your children very young and unable to communicate well? These are all reason why you should do an exhaustive background check on your prospective nanny. If you need someone to look after your children when you are not able to, you need to make sure that there is nothing in that persons background that could cast suspicion on whether or not they are qualified to hold that position. There is nothing more important then the safety and well being of your children. You can do an exhaustive background check quite easily nowadays. You can do it yourself online or hire a company. A background check can include criminal histories, criminal records, credit information as well as previous addresses and things of that nature. You of course would want to know of any criminal history that your prospective employee has. Whether or not children are involved if their record is not clean, and even if children are not involved, there are many offenses that a person could commit that could give you good reasons not to hire them. A drunk driving conviction for example, is a red flag that a alcohol problem could exist. Is your nanny going to be responsible for driving your children to and from school and after school activities? Then you are going to want to see their driving record. A person with many driving offenses may lack driving skills and you wouldnt want them driving your children around. A person who doesnt pay their bills on time could have a hard time managing their finances. This could be a sign of immaturity and irresponsibility. Just doing a simple reference check is important. It can tell you if their previous employers had any difficulties with them and if so what they were. Gathering all the information possible about prospective nannies is very important. The information combined with an interview that gives you the opportunity to ask any questions that arise form the background check and give the prospective nanny a chance to answer them. You need to trust your instincts about a person. If you do a background check combined with reference checks and an exhaustive interview, you should be able to get a good picture of what kind of person the nanny is and if she/he would be a good fit with your family. Skin Damage Factors

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

By Awinita Smith There are many factors that are responsible for skin damage. Skin also gets damaged by external factors. Sun is the main external factor that ages the skin. Ultraviolet radiation is the electromagnetic radiation. These radiations are not visible to necked eye. A harsh detergent is the general name given to ionic detergents, which can be harmful to the skin. These detergents are called ionic because their molecule gets charged up when they come in contact with water. If you come across a product that contains ionic detergents, try to avoid the usage of such product or else look for similar products that have nonionic detergents or look out for a substitute for that product. The hotter the water, greater is the chance of damage being done as the rate of chemical reactions increases with temperature i.e. the molecules scatter at very high speed when the temperature rises. Hence it is advisable to take bath with water that is warm and not hot and also you should not soak your body for too long in water. Irritants can damage your skin in 2 ways. First, they have the capability to directly infect or damage cells and matrix of the skin. Second, it can also instill an inflammatory or allergic reaction in the skin, which can have a very bad effect on your skin because they may release destructive free radicals and also metalloproteinases or MMP. Several different types of damage like infection, trauma, abrasions, burns, etc cause inflammation of the skin. It is a rare possibility but inflammation can also be caused by an auto immune response i.e. a malfunction of the immune system of the body, here it doesn’t require any external cause to exist. Puffiness in the eye area is a very common appearance of mild facial edema. There are many people who like to make faces, many a times to make kids laugh and at times trying to imitate a friend. Many of them may not realize that this could be a cause of wrinkles on their face. These wrinkles are called motion wrinkles, which are caused by repeating a particular facial expression over a period of time. Excessive cleansing strips the layer of the skin sebum and the skin may become dry, it may also lead to skin sensitivity and other problems. One should avoid cleaning and washing the face with hot water and also one should not wash the face more than two times a day. All the cosmetic stuff contains potential skin irritants. To keep your skin healthy one should avoid the use of makeup, if used it should be in moderate amount, especially around the eye area. If you spend some time in finding the right product for you, it will definitely save money as well as prevent you from the possibility of damaging your skin. Perfect Wedding Venue - Having A ball In The Perfect Hall

Monday, March 24th, 2008

By Daisy May So it`s over now those famous words have been spoken ending the perfect wedding service - I now pronounce you husband and wife. Then we have the perfect wedding dress on the bride as the solo photo shoot takes place while the perfect groom looks on with pride. Perfection ends with a perfectly organised Wedding Venue. If all your plans were carried out accordingly to your specific requirements of having the best of everything then there is no need to worry. The Wedding Venue where your reception is to take place is just as important as any other part of your wedding plans. The rave begins on the night of the wedding where guests party into the night and dance till dawn (depending on the venue) Gatherings can be large or small depending on your guest list so therefore the size of the Perfect Wedding Venue has to be carefully thought through. Ask friends and family for advice on local venue halls as they may have attended parties in the past which puts them in a position to answer your questions in general - like the size - seating capacity if any and what rules and regulations have to be adhered too. Case the joint so as to speak if you go to view - your perfect wedding venue will have a feel about it that you are either happy with or not - go back a second time if need be. Don`t rush matters and take your time before making any decision. A wedding is a very important occasion so let us get it right from the beginning. Plans to find your Perfect Wedding Venue can take time so advanced planning is a necessary step. Twelve months before the marriage is to take place is when the search should begin. What you have to remember is there maybe other events going on at the same time as your wedding who may also be interested in the same building or hall that you have your eye on. So bear in mind the early bird catches the worm. Very important is the size so it is wise to consult the guest list before making any reservations. Your wedding venue will not be perfect if to small and if to big then that may incur unnecessary costs which could be put to another good use like more spending money for the honeymoon. It is understandable that precise numbers can not be given at the time of booking due to the fact that some guests may not be able to attend on the night - but it is best to go off approximates so that you don`t lose the venue though hesitation of uncertainty. If a live band is to play the music at your wedding venue then please do yourself a favour and check out the dance floor and stage size. Also it is vital to check the clubs rules on the music.See if the venue you have booked can accommodate your guests with allotted parking areas. Your guests maybe travelling from out of town to attend the event. As with any venture when booking a hall for whatever the occasion - be sure to ask as many questions as possible. There maybe restrictions regarding music and closure times for particular areas where your perfect wedding venue is being held. Before sprucing up the hall with decorations highlighting the occasion remember to ask permission, check if the wedding hall will allow you to personalize the room by bringing along your own caterer, florist. There have been many upsets at weddings where the supposedly perfect wedding venue turned out not so perfect after all. But there you go not all of us are perfect when it comes to making the right decision so if in doubt get out and find someone who is more clued up on how to house hundreds of guest while they have a ball. 7 Sure-Fire Ways to Make a Positive Impression With Your Business Cards

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Calvin Golden What does your business card say about you? Most of thetime, it is not as positive or business-building as youthink. Do not, under any circumstances, under estimate the powerof your business card. Follow these sure-fire branding tipsto transform your business card into a marketing andbranding power-house. 1) Stick with the standard size Larger format or odd shaped cards can be rather unwieldy and cumbersome. A Standard size card will definately be easier foryour prospective clients or business partners to put in abusiness card holder. 2) Consider offset printing Though digital printing is cheaper if you need less than 1,000business cards, you may want to choose the design options andgreater variety of color that offset printing can provide. And if you are printing more than 1,000 cards, the costdifference between offset and digital printing is negliable. 3) Have a logo professionally designed A logo is like your fingerprint or face. It is a uniquerepresentation of your business. What ever you do, do not use clipart, which is the easy route.Clip art is not a logo! It is used by vaious kinds of businesses, and does not aid in distinguishing yours at all. 4) Choose high-quality paper. Today’s standard for business cards is 100- to 110-pound paperstock. You should use the type of paper that is common in your industry. Glossy stock is most often used by people in entertainment-related businesses. Those with more of a corporate type ofbusiness usually use matte stock. 5) Use the back of your card. By all means do not neglect the back of your business card. You can have marketing tools scuh as maps to help customersfind your establishment. Another trick that you can use to embellish the back is yourown unique logo. 6) Keep the design simple. This is where the K.I.S.S. principle really comes into play.Try to avoid making your business card looking cluttered orconfusing. Basic contact information, and maybe your slogan or othermarketing message, should suffice. 7)Embellish the card Embossing or hot foil stamping are expensive, but may be worth the cost. anything that makes your card stand out and lessensthe chance of it being thrown out is a great business expenseand will pay out in the long run. These 7 simple steps will surely improve the marketabilityand networking prowess of your business cards. Cal Golden is a business owner, Internet marketer and webmaster of Business Card Primer. Get Your College Credit from Experience in Life

Saturday, March 22nd, 2008

By Jonathan Steele You probably know those who took their classes, earned their college credits, got their degrees and have AsNs, BAs, MAs and even one with a PhD and all have one thing in common. They have no J.O.B. In contrast, there are those who have not completed high school who are successful in business and in life. A college degree does not always equate to success. However in the competitive market place you work in, is your success connected to having a degree and the alphabet soup behind your name? You can work toward that goal without having to sit in a classroom and paying thousands of dollars. There are programs for adult learners designed to fill your needs. The programs go by different names but all award college credit based on experience in life. Here is how it works. You find a college who gives experiential learning credit. In my case, I went with the least expensive, a local community college. For me, expensive was relative to actual cost and the time lost from work and the expense of travel to the college. I then researched to see if I could transfer the credits to the university that I wanted to get my degree from. This took a bit of work. I had to get a letter certifying accreditation and then send it to my degree awarding university to make sure they would approve. On approval, I then started the process to get the college credits by challenging the classes. In the case of my Speech 101 college credit challenge, my professor sent me a packet of the requirements. Each college will have their own unique requirements. First I had to write a Justification. This is one page explaining the reasons why college credit should be awarded with out taking the class. Look at two or three of the examples provided by the program director to know what is required. Then I had to provide a course of study. I made a list of the various speaker skills that are taught in Speech 101 Classes. If you have worked on those skills and to some degree mastered them, you are on your way to gaining experiential college credit for speech. Youre not done yet. You now need to get letters or testimonials as to your skills. It is best if you get them from local business people. Request that they write these on their business letterhead. Only a few are required. Consider giving more than what is asked for. When you approach the person who you want the letter from, give them a copy of a list of speech skills with two or three of your skills highlighted. Ask if they would give a letter of recommendation on your speaking skills for you to challenge your college credit. Ask if they would also mind including their observations on any three of the speaker skills or especially the ones you highlighted. For each request, highlight different sets of skills. Their letter might say something like… Dear Professor…, I have observed/ heard/ had opportunity to attend/ etc…lectures by Your Name on numerous or however many occasions. I feel they are an accomplished speaker, effective speaker. (Why) They demonstrated exceptional skill in pace, pitch, and power. (How) I noticed they had a wonderful way with illustrations. (An example) I especially appreciated their introductions and the ability they had to arouse interest. (An explanation) I feel they should receive the college credit for Speech 101 (word this however it is required) Sincerely, John Smith, CEO, Widgits Inc. Next, create a beautiful presentation binder. You are demonstrating your professionalism. Let it show in your presentation. Many office stores will be able to offer numerous ways to bind your project. The finishing should cost no more than 20 dollars depending on the size of the binding. My portfolio for an Art elective life experience credit cost a bit more. It consisted of binding numerous laminated pages of photos of my art and newspaper and magazine clippings of reviews. If approved, you will be awarded college credit for life experience. Congratulations, youre on your way to your degree. Jonathan Steele, RN, in addition to being a professional nurse is an artist, freelance public speaker, host and webmaster of http://www.speechmastery.com. San Diego Date Ideas - Kayak the La Jolla Sea Caves

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

By David Hail Set in a marine ecological reserve with sea caves, a kelp forest, abundant wildlife, and the beautiful La Jolla coastline, La Jolla Shores is widely regarded as the best ocean kayaking spot in San Diego. Aside from the general beauty of the area, the outstanding feature is the seven sea caves carved into the 75-million-year-old sandstone cliffs. The neat thing about these caves is that they are set into the water and, excepting Sunny Jims Cave, are only accessible from the ocean. While Sunny Jims may be reached by walking, The Clams Cave, Arch Cave, Sea Surprise, Shopping Cart, Little Sister, and White Lady can only be seen by kayak or boat. You can actually kayak into the caves with the right tide and swell, but it can be dangerous and is not recommended unless you are on a tour with an experienced guide. Now personally, I dont usually go for the guided tours because you end up in a big group of people who want to chat about God knows what and the pace gets set by some couch potato from Cleveland. But as far as kayaking in the reserve is concerned, a guide isnt such a bad idea. He or she will allow you to safely explore the sea caves during proper conditions and will also provide a wealth of information about the local animals, ecological reserve, and kelp forest. Speaking of wildlife, some of the animals you may see include sea lions, harbor seals, dolphins, distant whales in the wintertime, and perhaps a brightly-colored garibaldi or two. Whether youre in a tour or not, expect to spend a few hours on the water as you paddle from La Jolla Shores to the sea caves, La Jolla Cove, out to the kelp forest, and then back. If you opt to go it alone, the rental shops will transport both you and the kayaks to La Jolla Shores beach and return at a prearranged time. They pretty much all have complimentary lockers available and wetsuits for rent in colder weather. Bring dry clothes, a towel, hat, sunblock, sunglasses, etc. Reserve your single or double kayaks at least 24 hours in advance during the off-season and earlier around the holidays and peak summer season. When youre finished in the water, there are plenty of good spots for a picnic at La Jolla Shores, La Jolla Cove, or Ellen Browning Park, and some excellent restaurants in the village within walking distance. If you have the time, you might also enjoy walking south to see the seals sunbathing at Childrens Pool. David Hail is co-founder of local date ideas website NearHere.com. By Nadia Kirth Dont think this article is yet another traditional be caring and understanding, be a good listener etc, ect, etc type of a thing. All who are curious enough may read along and find out! Identify your own self - A quite a lot of people I know misunderstand themselves and their own feelings. They misinterpret lust for love. That should not happen to you buddies! Just spare a moment to understand what type of a person you are and what you really want in life. Thisll make it easy for you to be yourself and express yourself more clearly to a person you wont see physically. Are your desires clear to you? - If not, you are bound to be an online looooooser! If you dont know what you expect from a relationship, what is the point of starting one in the first place? Just think a minute and get your desires clearly identified. Once done, express them to your partner and see whether they clash with that of your partners. If yes, dont give up. Try and discuss things out. Absolutely no fighting please! Physical attraction is not all - How many of us fall for the wrongest of the wrong cos the person is the talk of the town and everyone thinks the one who gets to go out with him/her is the luckiest among all? Well..physical attraction matters initially cos that affects the first impression. My advise for you to get to know the person well even if he/she is not among the flashiest. Identify the inner beauty and learn to appreciate it! After all, none of us would look 18 when we are 80! Keep that in mind! Nobody is perfect - It is no secret that you and I are not perfect and will never be! So what is everybodys fuss about finding a perfect partner, even, if online things are mostly unreliable? Just understand people are born with certain defects and try to tolerate tolerable ones as much as possible. Thatll make you a more desirable partner. This is not all buddies. The Top Five Greenhouse Accessories

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Dave Truman A greenhouse is more than just the structure itself - it’s also a sum of all the accessories and equipment that goes along with it. Tools, benches, measuring instruments and other similar items are standard fare in most greenhouses, but there are also accessories for the greenhouse itself. Louvres - plastic or glass shutters that allow airflow - are commonly used in greenhouses. They help to ventilate the inside of the structure which is particularly important in areas with long, hot days. Auto louvres can be a helpful accessory. These shutters will open and close automatically as the temperature varies or at specific times, saving you a lot of manual effort. Steel braces that can help to strengthen the overall structure are another helpful accessory. They wrap around the base of the greenhouse, holding it in place much like the metal straps around wooden barrels. They can help keep the greenhouse safe during storms or heavy snowfall. Shelving may seem mundane, but they have become works of art in themselves. Some shelving can be arranged into certain shapes for both form and function. You can get many colors, sizes and materials for your shelving. Rainwater kits are another helpful greenhouse accessory. They can save you quite a bit of time in watering plus they can save you money if your water is metered. Heating devices are another helpful accessory, particularly in places where the warm weather comes later in the season. Having a heated greenhouse means you can start your plants earlier in the year, and have them ready to go into the ground once the last frost has passed. This can save you a lot of money by letting you start your plants from seed rather than buying plants from your local nursery. Are you thinking of building your own greenhouse? Chosing A Best Man For Your Marriage

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

By Eric Hartwell The celebration of a wedding is normally a family event. Thus, it is not surprising to find that most of the attendees in any wedding consist of relatives from both sides of the bride and the groom. It is even more traditional that people who are part of the wedding entourage are either the brother, sister, cousin, niece or nephew of the couple to be wed. For the ladies, the most coveted position is to be chosen as the maid of honor since the person picked is one whom the bride considers to be her closest or best friend. Then there are also the bridesmaids and flower girls to complete the ensemble. On the mens side, the equivalent position of the maid of honor is the best man. The other members of the wedding entourage are the page boys and the ring bearer. Generally, it is the groom who will decide who he wants to be his best man. It is very rare that the best man is chosen by another person. The grooms final choice for best man will usually be one of his male best friends. Given that a wedding is a reunion of family and friends, it is natural that the groom would want his best friend to share in his joy at the occasion. Aside from his closest male friend, the groom may also pick his brother to fill the role of the best man. Sometimes, the groom may choose a person who is neither his best friend nor his brother, but someone who is responsible for introducing him to his bride-to-be. In rare cases, the groom may even decide to have a female best person. Traditionally, the best man should be single since he will also be actively participating in the wedding preparation, hence this can be time-consuming. This is not to say that single people have time on their hands! However, it is now acceptable that a married person become the best man. In this case, the groom as well as bride can benefit from the wisdom that will be imparted by a married best man as regards starting and building a family.
