It has long been known that the queen has two X chromosomes and retains the male sperm after mating. She fertilises eggs only when the need arises to produce new nymph queens. This leads to swarming, with queen and bees leaving the hive to establish a colony elsewhere. The males are not the result of sexual mating and they contain only half a set of chromosomes. Workers are sterile females arising from an asexual process. Others will focus on gathering nectar, which will become honey after it is regurgitated at the hive. Genetic studies and brain analysis at individual bee level have shown the important roles of gene expression and environment. A hormone produced by the queen activates the gene expression that favours nursing behaviour. A specific gene was identified as the major player in determining social change from nurse worker to forager. New diagnostics now enable scientists to study thousands of gene expressions at the same time. A better understanding of genes, environment and social bee behaviour could be helpful in beekeeping and in using bees as pollinators in seed production of crops such as hybrid sunflowers and onions. It also serves to promote understanding of gene expression in humans, specifically genes involved in different types of cancers. Pollination is fundamental to sexual production in plants, and in bee-pollinated plants it has resulted in plant-animal co-evolution. Nectar and copious pollen production are the cost to the plant for its services of the inadvertent pollinator. Most bees are pollinators and they are attracted to flowers for food. Plants are fundamental to terrestrial life as primary producers, and they maintain watersheds, prevent soil erosion, and provide shelter, refugia (places of refuge from which organisms re-colonize distributed areas), food, nesting sites and useful materials for many animals and man. Some of the more experienced anglers probably know a lot about what I am talking about already but I think back to when I knew nothing about fishing. I wish there would have been something like that. They allow you to cast way farther, fish in deeper water, retrieve your hook easier and in the case you get a big fish on you can control the fight much easier. The four types are fly, bait caster, spin cast and spinning. Spin casting We will start with spin casting because it is the easiest to use and its great for newbies just getting into fishing. The fishing line comes out of a small hole at the front of the reel. It goes down a straight handle to small guides. These reels are great for fishing pan fish such as perch or crappy. Spinning Reel A spinning reel is often called an open face real. The reason for this is because there is no covering on the line. The reel mounts underneath the handle and you can cast further because with the open face it allows the line to come off the reel with less restriction. Bait caster The bait caster usually has a straight handle. Once again the guides run on top of the reel. A bait caster is quite difficult to learn with because the reel turns with the line when you cast so if youre not careful this is the easiest and quickest way to make a mess of your line that you probably wont recover from without cutting the birds nest out. Fly Fishing In fly fishing the reel is really only used for one thing and that is to hold your line. The other reels use weight to carry your hook to where you want it to go but in fly fishing you have to use several arm and wrist techniques. Another thing that is important in fly-fishing is your momentum.The one thing that is the same for all of these especially for beginners is that you will need practice to learn how to work them. Some are harder than the others with fly-fishing being the hardest but with practice everyone can become experts at the sport of fishing. What is a class-action lawsuit? If you have been wronged, can a class-action lawsuit help you? A class-action lawsuit is one in which a single law firm or attorney represents a group of individuals who have been wronged in some common way. The wrong may have come in the form of physical harm from a commercial product or perhaps in the form of financial harm done by a company misleading the public in some way. The courts decide whether or not a case is to be heard as a class-action suit, as the court must decide if the merits of the case justify handling the suit in that way, and whether or not the attorney or law firm in question can adequately represent the victims involved. Should the case proceed as a class-action suit, only one or two representatives of the class need appear in court. They will represent the class; it is not necessary for all members of the class to be present at trial. Once the case is certified as a class-action lawsuit, all parties representing the class are notified by their attorney either via mail or public notice. They then have the opportunity to opt out, should they not wish to be represented in the case by the attorneys in question. Unless the notified individuals opt out, they are included and will share in the award, should the lawsuit proceed to a successful conclusion. Individuals who choose to opt out may then elect to hire their own representation and perhaps file a lawsuit on their own. Class action lawsuits typically take several years to reach their conclusion, particularly if the suit is followed by appeals by the losing party. It is not uncommon, however, for class action lawsuits to be settled out of court.
